Measuring Performance: It’s All About Results
Is more always better? Governments tend to count lots of outputs but it’s false to presume that an increase in gallons of water treated or building permits issued translates to improved performance. Now more than ever, measuring the performance of government services and programs is fundamental to establishing and maintaining its role as a credible community builder.

San Jose, Vail, Scottsdale And…
Over the last few months, our team has consulted with different organizations of various sizes and spoken at several conferences of government leaders.

The City of San Jose, California has retained the Mejorando Group to develop a Workforce Planning Program. The City has experienced unprecedented budget reductions resulting in the loss of a number of seasoned workforce members. Fortunately, the budget situation has improved and organizational leaders want to clarify a path forward on ways to equip the City's workforce with the capabilities necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

In Vail, Patrick presented "Reinventing Government in the 21st Century" at the annual conference of the Colorado Municipal League.

Patrick designed and facilitated an Advance meeting with members of the City of Scottsdale, Arizona's Human Services Division to re-establish the focus and service of workforce members.
Implement Next Practices To Expedite Progress
members have a clear line of sight between the contributions he/she makes every day with the overall performance of the organization is fundamental to success. Ensuring leaders, top to bottom, are well prepared to navigate current and future challenges, is the hallmark of credible and effective government.

Our team of consultants at the Mejorando Group partner with government leaders nationwide, helping translate the headwinds of change into a tailwind accelerating progress towards a better future. In our work we provide a range of services designed to effectively disrupt the status quo thinking of “we’ve always done it that way” and replace it with a “next practices” approach of optimizing resources, increasing employee performance and improving organizational effectiveness.

Knowledge Management
As organizations prepare for the potential departure of valuable staff, a major concern is how to preserve the tacit knowledge that these seasoned employees have amassed. Knowledge management is one method for ensuring that years of accumulated wisdom do not leave the department once the employee(s) retires or moves on. Various types of knowledge retention strategies can be utilized so that critical knowledge does not "walk out the door."

Read Patricks' recent article "Knowledge Management: Transfer It Before It's Too Late" to learn about the eight strategies available to transfer your organization's tacit knowledge to ensure continuity of organizational performance.
